Cold Weather Alert

- Extreme cold conditions set to hit Namibia by Thursday morning.

NAMIBIANS, especially residents of the southern parts of the country, have been warned to take precautionary measures against severe cold weather that is expected by Thursday.

The extreme cold weather conditions are expected in Namibia with the arrival of the massive intense cold front over southern part of Africa by Thursday morning.

According to Odillo Kgobetsi, the chief forecaster at the Namibia Metrological Services said cold and moist air will be in circulation will be brought in by the cold front which will cause rains over the south western half of Namibia by Friday.

“Not only will the southern parts of Namibia become extremely cold, residents of the central and eatsrn parts of the country will also feel the effects of the cold front,” he said.

The freezing weather conditions are expected to last well into the weekend.

Weather forecasters indicated that the system is not only staying on course over the central Atlantic Ocean but is also strengthening substantially and should make for one of the most eventful winter weekends in Southern Africa in many years.

The Snow Report website has predicted that up to 40mm of snow might fall on the highest peaks of South African mountain ranges over the weekend.
