Port Moody — Montreal-based Led Zeppelin tribute band Black Dog is set to wrap up its first Western Canadian tour in Port Moody this spring.

“We’re really excited,” said François Larouche, the band’s multi-instrumentalist who steps into the role of John Paul Jones. “I’ll play the keyboards and mandolin parts with a little bit of backing vocals, percussion, and most of all, bass.”

The City of Port Moody’s parks division held the first of three pop-up information sessions for its “People, Dogs, and Public Spaces Strategy” at Rocky Point Park on Saturday.

The goal is to “bring the project to where the people are, hoping to get diverse perspectives on dog-related issues,” said Ding Yu, parks planning project manager with the city’s environment and parks department.

According to the city’s public engagement page, the strategy will guide decision-making regarding parks, trails, off-leash areas, and city-wide amenities. It also addresses bylaw enforcement and community education. The overarching objective is to help residents and pets share public spaces “responsibly and respectfully.”

Coun. Kyla Knowles confirms she will seek re-election to Port Moody council this fall

Port Moody – After much speculation, Coun. Kyla Knowles confirmed by email that she will run in the municipal election this October.

Similar to Coun. Diana Dilworth and Mayor Meghan Lahti, Knowles said that while she intends to run, her current focus remains on finishing her term.

“I really enjoyed it. I found it very satisfying and I think the city’s come a long way. I think we’ve done good work,” she said.

Mayor Meghan Lahti says she is leaving the door open for a second term but has yet to make a final decision as she reflects on her first four years in office.

“This is a big job, and I can’t dedicate my time to a campaign [right now],” Lahti said.

If Lahti seeks re-election, she will likely face Coun. Haven Lurbiecki, who announced her candidacy for mayor in February. Lurbiecki, a frequent critic of Lahti and other council members, has called for a change in direction for the city.
