Nashville, Coffee and Three Things I Learned at the AACC Conference

Listen Later

Nashville, TN is truly a wonderful place. It's the music capital of the world after all.

But, I learned something deeper, more inspiring than music, something that will change my life forever in Nashville.

This episode is my personal journey or discovery (nothing really new), but something inspiring happened to me at the American Association of Christian Counselors (AACC) World Conference.

This episode is my account of what I took away from the conference.

The workshop speakers were good, the keynote presenters were inspiring, and the worship was amazing, but what really made an impression on me was...

1. It's good to stay connected. If your company or profession has a conference I want to encourage you to go to feel connected with your trade or career.

2. We need each another. No one should work completely on their own. I am a solo therapist in my private practice, and I can feel all alone at times. It's important to know that we need others to support and encourage us through the good and bad times.

3. We all have a story. I made it a point to walk up and meet at least 5 new people a day. More than simply saying hi, I wanted to listen to their story. I learned a lot from everyone that I talked with.

I am thankful that the lines to get coffee were long because it forced me to slow down and get to know the people around me.

My encouragement to you is to slow down and meet someone new today. Try not to be so concerned about your busy schedule that you forget to look around you and learn about the story of at least one person.

Who knows, you may be impacted by their story and you may be able to impact them.

You have a story too, and you should tell others about it. Our stories can be really hard sometimes, but the beauty is that someone else has already experienced it and they can help you if you let them.

So slow down, and while you're waiting in line for coffee or whatever it may be, get to know the person standing next to you and listen to their story.
