Otaki MP Nathan Guy says Kapiti Airport deserves to have an airline which cares about the region.
It's looking like Air Chathams will take over daily return flights to Auckland, if their aircraft are found to be suitable.
Nathan Guy says travellers had been second-guessing Air New Zealand's reliability after cancellations at the airport every week.
He told Mike Hosking it would be nice to have an airline who cared about the regions, as it felt like Air New Zealand didn't.
"While the airline has a great international reputation - we all enjoy flying them - the feeling now in rural [and] provincial New Zealand is they don't give a damn."
Air Chathams says it's looking at three return flights to Auckland Airport daily.
Guy says the airline will do well if these flights go ahead.
"The route has been profitable, so now it's going to be left to someone like Air Chatham and they are likely to do a deal with the property owner.
"Then hopefully we hold hands and celebrate with them flying in, in a few months' time."
