This study investigates how family history of substance use disorders and stressful life events impact adolescent brain development, particularly the integrity of white matter, which is essential for brain communication. The findings indicate that these two factors interact over time to heighten vulnerability to substance use disorders, suggesting that interventions should consider both genetic and environmental influences to effectively mitigate risks for young people. Understanding these interactions is crucial for developing targeted treatment strategies for adolescents at risk.
