The NBA draft lottery was held in June, with the San Antonio Spurs selecting Victor Wembanyama with the first overall pick. The 2023 NBA Champions Denver Nuggets signed Hunter Tyson from the Oklahoma Thunder, Julian Strawther and Jalen Pickett from the Indiana Pacers preparing for the 2024 Championship. In July at least four tournaments from the Women’s NBA Academy Games, the California Classic in Sacramento, the Salt Lake City league, and the NBA 2K24 league in Las Vegas.
The 2023-2024 NBA season will introduce the NBA In-Season Tournament, a new annual competition for all 30 teams. The tournament will feature a group stage and a knockout round for the 30 teams randomly drawn into six groups of five teams. Each team will play each team in its group once, for a total of four games.
The six group winners and the two teams with the best records in each conference that did not win their group, will advance to the knockout round. The knockout round will be single elimination, with the quarterfinals and semifinals being played at the home of the higher-seeded team.
The Final Four will be played in Las Vegas, with the semifinals on Thursday, December 7th and the Finals on Saturday, December 9th. The winner of the NBA In-Season Tournament will be awarded the NBA Cup and a prize pool of $18 million.
The NBA 2K24 Summer League is happening this July at the Cox Pavilion and Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas from July 7 to 14. The teams playing include the Pelicans, Timberwolves, Nuggets, Bucks, Bulls, Raptors, Trail Blazers, Rockets, Cavaliers, Nets, Hornets, Spurs, Kings, Hawks, Warriors, Lakers, Heat, Celtics, Thunder, 76ers, Pistons, Magic, Grizzlies, Pacers, Wizards, Suns, Clippers, and Jazz. The quarterfinals will be held on July 15, the semifinals on July 16, and the championship on July 17.
These tournaments do not count towards the regular season standings or the prestigious NBA Championship at the end of the season. They are simply fun and developing entertainment from the NBA.
