Conversation with Cully and Conlon finally returns with the UConn Women's Basketball legend, Western Connecticut State University Head Coach Maria Conlon. We talk about UConn rolling through the Women's NCAA Tournament and who will be a tough matchup.Maria is beloved in Connecticut, an instate star who went on to become legendary as a Husky. One of the questions we didn't get to on Husky Hoops is if pressure continues to grow as this team remains undefeated. Maria does not see it being a factor or even discussed within the locker-room. She would know, having firsthand experience on one of the greatest teams in UConn history that won a National Championship with a perfect record. Plus, Maria knows Geno is the best college basketball coach, with an experienced staff who can handle any situation. She said we can only play who is on our schedule and we defeated strong, non-conference opponents. Unfortunately, being in the Big East does us no favors and nobody in the league came close to challenging us. Maria did say as we get to the elite 8 on, she thinks several of those top teams could knock us out. There is more parity and last season was the longest drought in recent years before winning it all. Maria believes Sarah Strong is the best player in the country, Azzi Fudd is phenomenal and the WNBA top draft pick. With veterans like KK, Shade, along with Blanca, we should come home wearing another ring.We discussed the WNBA finalizing a CBA agreement finally. Maria predicted it would go until March or April and someone would blink. Players will receive much improved compensation, and the league will not lose momentum built from the last few seasons. Great having Maria back, her analysis, insight is spot on. Congratulations to her as a coach for building success in only her second season at West Conn. The Best has yet to come!
