Ask a Jackrabbit fan, and it feels like the SDSU women and the Summit League, period, is a Rodney Dangerfield of NCAA Tournament Selection Committees and their seedings:
They don't get no respect!
Now, first of all, that line is a double negative. But... should they get more respect? And, if so, what should schools like SDSU or Omaha — whose men are a 15 seed vs St. John's on Thursday night — do about it if the Summit League will almost always be a one-bid league in the Big Dance, with the ceiling for seeding being a 6-seed for the women (SDSU in 2019) and 12-seed for the men (SDSU in 2018)?
Should they try to leave the Summit for another league that gets more respect?
Gary Sharp has been the play-by-play Voice of the Omaha Mavericks for 10 years and offers a deep dive into the perception and history of the league, plus how the league and teams in it, men's and women's could strengthen its positioning in future tourneys.
Sharp also describes the magic carpet ride from the 5-25 wilderness of the Mavs just three years ago to the school's first NCAA Tournament berth?
Oh, and how can the Mavs score a Cinderella March Madness moment and beat 2-seed St. John's, coached by one of the icons of the sport, Rick Pitino?
