Y Camp Journeys: NDIS Respite Camps
What are NDIS Respite Camps offered by Y Camp Journeys?
NDIS Respite Camps by Y Camp Journeys are supported, person-centred camping experiences designed for individuals with disabilities funded by the NDIS (National Disability Insurance Scheme). These camps provide a break (respite) for caregivers while offering participants life-enhancing and fun adventures. The camps focus on capacity building, developing independent living skills, fostering social connections, and personal growth in an inclusive and safe environment.
Where are these NDIS Respite Camps located?
The NDIS Respite Camps are held across Victoria at various YMCA campsites, including seven specific YMCA locations. Each campsite offers different activities, ensuring a unique experience with each camp. Return bus transport to the camp is often included, with a central departure and return location at Y Leisure City in Epping, unless specified otherwise for a particular camp.
What types of activities are included in the NDIS Respite Camps?
The camps offer a wide range of activities to cater to different interests and abilities. These include adventure activities such as high ropes, canoeing, archery, and giant swings, as well as non-adventure activities like games, sports, discos, cooking, dance, and arts & crafts. All planned activities are designed to be accessible and inclusive, allowing everyone to participate in their own way.
What are the goals of the NDIS Respite Camps for participants?
The camps aim to help participants achieve their NDIS goals, focusing on areas such as participating in group and recreational activities, engaging in wellbeing activities, developing complex independent living and self-care skills, building and maintaining relationships, improving social interactions, gaining independence in daily living and life skills, and trying new activities with support.
What kind of support and supervision is provided at the camps?
The camps are overseen by trained and experienced support workers who are committed to delivering high-quality and fun experiences while meeting participants' NDIS goals. Support ratios vary (1:1, 1:2, 1:3, 1:4, and 1:5) depending on the needs of the participants. The Y is also a child-safe accredited organization, and all disability support workers hold a current Working with Children Check (WWCC). They prioritize safety while also allowing for spontaneity and adapting to individual needs and interests.
What is included in the cost of the NDIS Respite Camps?
The cost of the camp is comprehensive and includes the organisation by experienced Y Support staff, all adventure and non-adventure activities, all meals, snacks, and drinks, accommodation in shared cabins, all necessary camp consumables and equipment, and return bus transport from a designated location. The support provided by trained staff is also included, and NDIS funding may be available to cover these supports.
Who can attend the NDIS Respite Camps?
The NDIS Respite Camps cater to different age groups, with "Under Age Camps" for those aged 7-17 and "Adult Camps" for individuals 18 years and above. There are also "Small Group, Big Adventure" camps for more intimate adventure experiences and "Y Retreats" offering unique camp experiences. The camps are designed for NDIS participants and self-funded individuals with disabilities.
