TEXT: Hebrews 12:17INTRO: Life is full of choices. It is estimated that the average American adult makes approximately 35,000 decisions every day. Those of you who think you’re indecisive should feel a little bit better about yourselves now. Granted, all these decisions aren’t life altering. In fact, most are not, but some are. Hebrews 12:17 references one such choice in the life of Esau. Today, we’re going to look at the choice he made to sell his birthright to his brother Jacob for a bowl of bean soup. Esau was hungry, exhausted, and probably frustrated when he returned from the hunt without a kill. In a moment of weakness, he traded something money could not buy for a mere bowl of beans. In this moment of pressure, the quality of his heart was revealed and judged. If you could gaze into eternity, presumably into the halls of hell, I believe you might very well find Esau shoving morsel after morsel of food into his mouth trying to fill the eternal hunger of his carnality. Let this story serve as a warning to us to subdue the carnality of our flesh and pursue the blessings of God.
