Podcast Introduction

It’s History Tuesday. Our reading today will complete the book of Nehemiah with chapters 10-13. I’m calling this episode “Striving for Faithfulness.“

Summary

In Nehemiah 13, we find that Nehemiah, despite his clear conscience, is disappointed that the people couldn't keep their promises to serve faithfully. This situation reminds us that human nature hasn't changed over time; we still struggle with living a sinless life. As the saying goes, "The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak."

Commentator David Guzik reminds us that if we could be saved by our own promises and commitment to Jesus, His sacrifice on the cross would have been unnecessary. Our salvation doesn't come from our vows or efforts but from trusting in Jesus and His work to save us.

Steve Webb 0:03This is the Lifespring! One Year Bible coming to you from Riverside, California. Podcasting since 2004, my name is Steve Webb. I'm your OG Godcaster. It's History Tuesday and our reading today will complete the book of Nehemiah with chapters 10 through 13. And by the way, this episode was pre-recorded this past Saturday, September 9, 2023, since the surgery I mentioned a few days ago is scheduled for tomorrow. The next two episodes will also be pre-recorded since I'm not sure if I'll be able to record right away after the surgery. It'll be a laparoscopic procedure, so less invasive than a traditional surgery with an incision, but they have prescribed some pretty heavy painkillers for me, so I'm not really sure what to expect. Thus, the extra pre-recorded episodes. And tomorrow is Wednesday which is normally a praise and prayer request day, but under the circumstances, our next prayer request day will be this coming Sunday. And that's enough of that. The website is lifespringmedia.com and I'll have contact information at the end of today's show. Before we read, let's pray. Our heavenly Father, we love you and we thank you for our time together today. I pray that you would bless this time and that you would teach us. We pray this in Jesus' name. Amen. Okay, let's begin.
