Nehemiah 9.1-37: Confession and Remembrance

Listen Later

Pastor Josh Rhone preaches on March 19, 2023, at Zion Church, a United Methodist congregation, in York, Pennsylvania. This weekend we look at Nehemiah 9.1-37. Having listened as the Law of the book of Moses was read and having participated in Sukkot, the people of Judah/the inhabitants of Jerusalem enter into a time of remembrance and confession. They recount the history of the relationship between Yahweh and God's chosen people, as well as the many missteps and failures of Judah to honor their covenantal responsibilities. Despite their many failures, God remains "gracious and merciful, slow to anger and abounding in love." Today, we discuss the importance of remembering our past (good or bad), as well as the opportunity that we have to break the cycle with God's help –– embracing, leaning into, and living a new and different life as we follow Christ. Join us for this weekend's conversation!
