The story of Jesus and the woman caught in the act of adultery in John chapter eight is a troublesome passage. It paints a picture of Jesus that seems to clash with the image of God many of us carry around with us day to day. Why are there so many commands in the scripture if Jesus himself doesn't feel he needs to hold us to them? Jesus seems so different than the God of the Old Testament, but what if he's not? What if the God of the Old Testament is exactly like Jesus? What then?
