Conrads! It's time to celebrate the 420 sub count by playing something SUPER COOL and VERY DIFFERENT.
That's right it's time for an itch.io game. Today specifically I am playing the "alpha" demo of Neon Rain, a boomershooter built from godot (yeah the linux game builder software).
Although I may not look it I am an extreme lover of the FPS genre. I played FPS's a ton in my teens and twenties so I'm pretty err, shall we say, played out on most standard FPS mechanics.
I found this game to be very refreshing mechanically. I've played a LOT of shooters and this one felt very unique in terms of mechanics, which is a rare thing these days. Combat felt GREAT and VERY MOBILE in a way that I haven't seen since mirror's edge.
I poo-pooed the autoaiming mechanics but if I'm being honest it's probably one of the best features and presents a possible path to level the playing field between Keyboard+Mouse and Controller.
I don't know if this would appeal to an average gamer or not. But I'd buy it fucking now.
My biggest critique of this game is that I'm not playing it right this second.
