The Working Therapist: Providing Helpful Ideas for Pediatric Speech, Occupational and Physical Therapy

Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and Medical Conditions Common to Premature Babies - Part III

Listen Later

In this episode of The Working Therapist, Haden is joined by special guests Scott Cameron, MD, Judy Philbrook, MSN, NNP-BC, and Kjirsti Myles, PT, for the final installment in a series of podcasts discussing neonatal intensive care units (NICUs) as well as medical conditions and terminology common to premature babies. For some therapists the NICU can be an intimidating place, especially if you have never treated or evaluated in one. The unit is kept behind closed doors, it's dark, and there is quite a bit of medical equipment throughout. Throughout this series, though, Dr. Scott Cameron and Judy Philbrook, neonatal specialists, discuss the NICU in order to give therapists insight into this special unit and educate them on common terminology and medical conditions in order to dispel any intimidation that could be caused from the outside looking in.
