Netflix NEWS Updates on Netflix original content releasing this week and the announcements from last week. Netflix Originals Releasing This Week Annihilation (March 12) - Excludes U.S. Netflix Distributed Movie The film stars Natalie Portman, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Gina Rodriguez, Tessa Thompson, Tuva Novotny and Oscar Isaac, and follows a group of military scientists who enter "The Shimmer," a mysterious quarantined zone that is full of mutating landscapes and creatures. It's from Alex Garland (Ex Machina, 28 Days Later). It releases in U.S. theaters on February 23, before international release via Netflix. Children of the Whales Season 1 (March 13) Netflix Distributed Japanese Language Series This anime is set on a ship that floats in an endless ocean of sand. As a magic wielder, young archivist Chakuro knows his time is short, but everything changes when a girl from the outside appears on his island. Watch the trailer  Ricky Gervais: Humanity (March 13) Netflix Comedy Special This is the first of two comedy specials. Ricky Gervais is an English comedian, actor, writer, producer, director, singer, and musician. He achieved mainstream fame with his BBC television series The Office. Watch the trailer Stretch Armstrong: The Breakout (March 13) Netflix Kids Movie - Interactive Adventure Teen Jake Armstrong and his two pals are exposed to dangerous chemicals that give them the ability to stretch their bodies. They begin fighting crime. With branching story lines and various choices, children get to participate in the show as it unfolds. Children make a choice with a remote, controller, or touch screen. If a choice isn't made, the show will continue after fifteen seconds. Announcement Terrace House: Opening New Doors Part 1 (March 13)  Netflix Japanese language Exclusive Series with Fuji Television/Japan - 8 episodesMoving from Hawaii to a Karuizawaw, Japan resort this unscripted reality series premieres in Japan on December 19 with bi-weekly episodes. Part 1 launches globally in 2018. Terrace House: Opening New Doors follows Boys and Girls in the City and Alopha State, documenting the daily lives of six men and women living together in a shared house. There series was announced on November 1. Announcement Tabula Rasa Season 1 (March 15) Netflix Distributed Flemish Language Series A young woman with amnesia becomes a key figure in a disappearance case. BENJI (March 16) Netflix Original MovieEveryone's favorite canine hero Benji proves to the world that with love and determination in his heart, no obstacle is too big. Bad guys don't stand a chance. Co-creators are Eddie Gonzalez, Jeremy Halt, and Lauren Iungerich who created the MTV series Awkward. The series stars Diego Tinoco as Cesar Diaz, Jason Genoa as Ruby Martinez, Jessica Marie Garcia as Jasmin, Sierra Capri as Monse Finnie, and Brett Gray as Jamal Turner.
