My friend Abu can be frustrating because he has all these ideas of how he'll change the world, and he has in small ways, but that's not enough. He has a kind of all-or-nothing state of mind. Saving the world sounds similar to gambling, if he's got one lifetime, one hand to play, better go all in, anything less would be a waste. This, IMO, hasn't been working.
When I first interviewed him, it had been a couple years since he quit his job and, by my calculations, he was running out of money. You'd think it's not too hard to get a job but Abu has other mental things going on and the possibly of homelessness was a real concern for me. For Abu, not so much, which only made me more worried.
