Never Let It Drive

Listen Later

“Fear can be a passenger, but never let it drive.”

I’ve been focused on some other things, but I’m back to motivation! It’s been a good start to my year, not a perfect one, but overall good. I hope the same for everyone else. My hope is that you have stayed true to your goals.

Back to our quote!

Fear is important.

Rational thinking is more important.

Fear is a response to potential danger, but should never drive your decisions. Fear is important because it warns us that something new or different is occurring. Something outside the norm is happening and we should be aware. That’s helpful if food being offered to you that you may be allergic to or a strange person approaches you in a menacing way. When you are doing something you haven’t done before you’ll have cautionary signals sent to your brain. That makes sense.

However, in situations that can offer growth or just a new experience, fear isn’t helpful. It can be downright harmful.

Feel the fear and do it anyway.

If you have never ran a 5k, you’ll feel fear or some sense of apprehension. Feel the fear and do it anyway.

If you have never done an open mic as a comedian, you’ll feel fear or some sense of apprehension. Feel the fear and do it anyway.

If you’ve never done an audition for a big budget movie, you’ll feel fear or some sense of apprehension. Feel the fear and do it anyway.

If you have never confronted your family about the way they treat you or others, you’ll feel fear or some sense of apprehension. Feel the fear and do it anyway.

Fear is important.

Rational thinking is more important. And even more important is giving yourself the chance to lean into new and great things.
