The Staycation Summer Series is all about sharing the best New Brunswick has to offer. From travel tips to restaurant recommendations, this series invites guests from around province to proudly share the hidden gems and must-see spots in their hometowns.

On this episode, Mayor Adam Lordon welcomes us to Miramichi! Like many New Brunswickers, Adam left his hometown after high school, pursuing his studies first at Saint Mary’s University where he was the Valedictorian of his graduating class in 2007, then working in television and media in Toronto (any fans of the Marilyn Denis Show here?), before returning to his roots. He now combines the skills he honed outside Miramichi with his passion for its potential, creating a powerful ambassador who is both a political figure and an entrepreneur. His love for life on the river and in New Brunswick is infectious!

Ritchie Wharf is a fantastic waterfront destination, whether you’re with the family or just enjoying some adult time. Kids will love the splash pad and whimsical playground (a sea monster and a ship!), while foodies will want to head to VERA for some tasty plates to share.

And if food and drink are on your mind, there are lots of great independent cafes, breweries, and more to check out. In the episode we touch on O’Donaghue’s, Gabi’s Pie Shop, and New Maritime Beer, to name a few!

Beaubears Island is a fantastic place to explore shipbuilding and fur trading history, as well as the natural treasures of the area. Enjoy a short ferry ride to the island, as well!

Middle Island acted as a quarantine station for people entering our country, many of whom sadly perished from illness on this site. There is a beautiful memorial cross, interpretive panels, and trails to explore.

There are several family-friendly waterfront hotels in the city, or you might want to head to something a little more secluded, like Storeytown Cottages (dog friendly, with lots of river canoe, kayak, and SUP options!) or the Treehouse & Camping Adventures.
