New Brunswick's First Black Gala?

Listen Later

New Brunswicks First Black Gala? No, apparently not! As early as 1858 there were soirees being held by the Black community, with fancy river boat expeditions of 300+ in attendance in the early 1900’s, and Prude held esteemed events in the 1980's.

As NB's population continues to diversify and Black immigration spreads to other regions of the province from new countries around the world a new organization seeks to add to the legacy.

On this weeks episode of BlackLantic we speak with Nichole Jonas & Job Ochigbo, co-founders of the Malakaila Foundation. The Malakaila Foundation's objective is to celebrate, recognize and uplift historical and present Black Canadians and organizations across Atlantic Canada. They will be hosting their 1st annual gala February 25th and tell us all about it! Don't forget to like, comment, subscribe and rate.
