New elementary building exceeding energy efficiency expectations

Box Elder School District officials say Golden Spike Elementary is setting a new standard for energy-efficient school design, with operational savings already exceeding expectations. Box Elder School District Facilities Director Corey Thompson and architect Dave Cox highlighted how the 104,000-square-foot building has been operating at 85% energy efficiency and is projected to improve to between 88% and 90%. Golden Spike currently pays just 33 cents per square foot in annual utility costs, a dramatic improvement compared to 80 cents per square foot at Foothill and Mountain View elementaries, the schools Golden Spike replaced. “So you’re buying it for 11.75 cents....
