A wide variety of supernatural phenomena have been recorded for the New Ghost Stories project over the past decade. I don’t think I quite understood what a wide range of experiences I was going to uncover back when this all began.
There are certainly hauntings that I could broadly categorise into certain types. We’ve heard several accounts of vengeful spirits, for example, as well as multiple cases of infantile ghosts. There are even hauntings of past events (Stone tape theory, anyone?) that have cropped up. Moments from the past replaying over and over again.
But we’ve also covered incidents that are much less classifiable. Cases that cover vampiric objects, occult gatherings, and even mass possessions. (see episodes 17 The Hoarder, 20 and 21 respectively).
When it comes to the strange and the supernatural, I’ve found that there are always new ways to be surprised.
Ghosts aren’t an easy to define thing. It’s really a term which groups together a number of similar, yet also very different phenomena. It’s a term we have because we don’t entirely understand what it is we’re describing, but we have to call it something, otherwise we can never hope to understand it.
I guess what I’m getting at is that this episode does not feature a regular type of haunting. But it is strange, and definitely supernatural. And certainly very creepy indeed.
