The first rule is: don’t be boring.”

MOWRI’s debut album ANTIFAZ is a dynamic sonic journey. “Each song is a different mask,” and is a result of “years of me making different things and smashing them together.”

MOWRI grew up with music, his pops was in a band in San Salvador. Growing up around rhythm, he found his love for drums at ten years old. He studied experimental sounds in Scotland and Richmond, Virginia, and now collaborates with artists in LA and NYC, where he is based.

Expect this album to reflect the years MOWRI spent making it; it goes up, down, it’s groovy and aggressive, ambient yet structured, and pulls from punk, hip hop, and electronic vibes. “This album is an exploration into different cultures and sounds around the world,” he said, and although he loves collaboration, “the fact that this album is coming out is me saying, I am a solo artist.”

We talk Computer Science with Latinx powerhouse technologists during a gathering hosted by CS4All at Columbia University’s Teachers College.

Check out highlights from the roundtable discussion with Beatris Mendez Gandica (Program Manager at Microsoft), Andrea Chaves (Spanish and Technology teacher at the Young Women’s Leadership School of Astoria) Jose Olivares (Director of High School Computer Science Academics for CS4All) and Antuan Santana (Community Engagement Manager at Microsoft)

as well as Sokio’s conversation with media artists Paula Leonvendagar and Sebastian Morales.

Host Camila Montañez and New Latin Wave founder, Sokio, dig into the super cool things that make up Latinx cultural multiverse. In this episode New Latin Wave contributor Melissa Saenz-Gordon interviewed Art Historians Andrea Giunta (based in Buenos Aires) and Cecilia Fajardo-Hill (based in Los Angeles) who curated the groundbreaking exhibition, Radical Women: Latin American Art 1960-1985 and Carmen Hermo, Associate Curator at the Elizabeth E. Sackler Center for Feminist Art at the Brooklyn Museum.

Why is an exhibition about radical Latina/Latinx women necessary? What makes the female body political? Was it easy to find a venue? Why were women drawn to new media? These questions are all answered by curators Andrea Giunta, Cecilia Fajardo-Hill and Carmen Hermo. Featuring over 123 artists from 15 countries, Radical Women: Latin American Art 1960-1985 was first shown at the Hammer Museum at UCLA as a part of the Pacific Standard Time: LA/LA initiative by the Getty Foundation, then the Brooklyn Museum, and finally at the Pinacoteca in São Paolo.

New York City-based performance artist Stefa* is our musical guest.

Hey lovelies, I’m just dropping in with a quick message intended to get the news out regarding a new cold case investigation featuring the 6 victims attributed to the newly-named Bible Belt Strangler of mid-1980’s Tennessee.   Out of the Shadows Podcast, hosted by my friend, investigative podcaster Shane Waters, will be jumping in to see what he can learn about the identities of 5 of the victims.  True crime podcasts are having an impact. What Shane is doing is courageous and ambitious, and I look forward to seeing what this team can find out.

The recent press conference will play next- find Out of the Shadows wherever you get your podcasts, and follow their progress on twitter @TheShadowsPod.

Murderous Minors will be back in just a few days with an episode featuring 2 stories about sororicide- when a siblings kills a sibling. Until then, don’t be scared.

In this episode, we learn more about Ecuatorian-Lituanian DJ, producer and cultural activist Riobamba, and the playlist she made inspired by the Radical Women exhibition at the Brooklyn Museum. The New Latin Wave podcast features hosts Camila Montañez and Sokio as they dig into many of the super cool things happening in the Latinx cultural multiverse.
