A new University of Missouri study looks to reduce avoidable hospitalizations for nursing home residents with dementia. The research found that they’re more likely to experience unnecessary hospital transfers, which costs the U.S. healthcare system over $2 billion each year.

Sinclair School of Nursing assistant professor Kim Powell tells Anthony Morabith that documenting advanced care planning early when residents can still communicate their preferences is key.
