A new Australian study of over 1,200 children has developed a tool to identify which children with speech difficulties need therapy and which will naturally improve. The research found that speech mix-ups are common until age six, with 90% of children correctly forming all speech sounds by age seven. Red flag errors include mixing up sounds within words or dropping key sounds altogether, affecting about one in 20 children who require early intervention.
