As we kick off a new year, we thought to start this new chapter by spreading the love of reading. We wanted to hold a discussion where we use this monumental shift to build a culture of reading in our homes as well as our communities. We know that over the last few years, there has been widespread concern about our children’s ability to read for comprehension and understanding. We also know that there are also challenges we face in ensuring our children can read and write in their home languages as well. We also know that publishing houses struggle with bringing our stories forward in our indigenous languages. Where do we begin this journey? Should we start with book clubs in community recreational centres like libraries? Should we start in our homes? How are we being intentional when it comes to introducing children to books?
