The Daily News has learned the city expects to shut down 2 jails by early next year as part of a larger plan to open up 4 new borough-based jails, and move all correctional facilities off Rikers Island. The Brooklyn Detention Complex in Boerum Hill is slated to close by the end of January. And the Eric M Taylor Center on Rikers Island will shut down in March.
