J-E-T-S JETS JETS JETS! On this edition of SYE Quick Hits, Bryce and Rueter are previewing the 2020 outlook for the New York football Jets!
The New York Jets had a pretty rough beginning to the 2019 season, losing 7 out of there first 8 games. Two of those losses were to their division rivals, the New England Patriots, in which the Jets were beaten by a combine score of 63 - 14, and had their young franchise QB “seeing ghost”.
Now to be fair, the Jets were without Sam Darnold for about 3 games after the season opener, who missed some action due to him catching mono. He returned in week 5 and lead his team to a victory against the Dallas Cowboys. The Jets would ultimately go on a 7 - 2 run and finished the season 9 - 7.
Throughout the season, the Jets O-line was just down right atrocious! They could barely keep Darnold upright or from having pressure in his face consistently. Big free agent RB addition Le’Veon Bell had zero holes to run through. And the receiving core, once lead by now departed Robby Anderson (Signed W/Carolina) was average at best. Needless to say, the offense could definitely use some upgrades.
The Jets had an average defense in 2019, finishing the season ranked 16th. They did sustain a few key injuries in the front seven, most notable 2019 free agent LB addition C.J. Mosley, who only suited up for 2 games. However, they did have arguably the best safety in the game today Jamal Adams, to help stabilize that defense in 2019. There has been a disconnect with Adams and the NYJ front office and Jamal has formerly requested a trade from the franchise. We’ll see if he’ll be on the team once the 2020 season actually begins.
They’re several questions about this Jets team that we’ll quickly find out once the season begins. Can Sam Darnold live up to the hype and produce at a higher level? Can Head Coach Adam Gase put his players in the best position to compete and succeed? How will the Jamal Adams saga eventually conclude? Tune in to this edition of SYE Quick Hits and see what Bryce and Rueter think!
