Newfoundland and Labrador - Part 1 - Beyond The Map

Listen Later

Nick and Amy head to the very edge of North America for a whirlwind trip across Newfoundland and Labrador — a place defined by big landscapes, deep history and even bigger characters.

Based in St. John’s, they explore one of the oldest European cities in the New World, walking its streets with local guide Pierre Trowbridge and learning about the province’s powerful pull on those who leave and inevitably return, including Georgestown Inn owners Cindy and John.

From there, the journey takes them south along the Irish Loop to Ferryland, where they step inside the 17th-century Colony of Avalon.

Out on the water in Bay Bulls, they join Noah O’Brien — he works with his father, a former fisherman turned tour pioneer — for a whale and seabird tour among puffins and humpbacks!

Along the way, Nick and Amy meet the people shaping modern Newfoundland and Labrador tourism, uncover stories of resilience and reinvention, and discover why this rugged, remote province leaves such a lasting mark on everyone who visits.
