A member of the Cherokee Sheriff’s Office command staff is on administrative leave after he was arrested and charged with DUI in Pickens County.

Maj. John New, director of the Cherokee Multi-Agency Narcotics Squad, or CMANS, was arrested Sept. 24 by the Georgia State Patrol in Jasper and charged with driving under the influence and failure to maintain lane, a Pickens County Sheriff’s Office report shows.
