In October 2025, Governor Gavin Newsom signed two bills and Jack and Tim are here to talk about it!— AB 1154 and SB 543 — that tweak and clarify state law governing accessory dwelling units (ADUs) and junior ADUs (JADUs). While on their face the bills may look technical and modest, many housing advocates see them as foundational steps toward addressing California’s affordability crisis. Together, these reforms aim to eliminate confusion, accelerate permitting, and unlock more “missing middle” housing on existing parcels.
