Vic & Ken: Here is the information on my Dad and Father-in-law.
Gerald “Jerry” Kalb (my dad) Army
Served in the Korean War from 2052 – 2054 (Germany), Private – worked as border guard, cook & driver for General.
Had just married my mom, not knowing his draft number was coming up and was drafted a few weeks after the wedding.
Out in the field one night and stepped on a land mine. Stood there for what seemed liked forever thinking he was leaving a 17 year old widow. Finally gave it over to God and said it will be what it is supposed to be …. Fortunately it was a dud. I’m not sure what medals my Dad earned.
John Dinga (WWII) – Served almost six years Primarily in the South Pacific in Signal Equipment. Earned Philippine Liberation Ribbon with 1 bronze star; Atlantic Pacific Theatre Campaign Medal with 2 bronze stars & bronze arrowhead ; Victory Medal; Occupation Japan - America Defense Service Ribbon. Met a girl before drafted and they wrote letters the entire time (which I have) and married this girl, Gerry, when he separated from the Army.
Thanks for honoring my “dads”
