A sheriff in Montana explained why he decided to leave the Democratic Party and run for re-election as a Republican. Cascade County Sheriff Jesse Slaughter quoted former President Reagan, and said that he "never left the Democratic Party, they left me."

A Colorado police officer was killed Monday along with the suspected gunman and a civilian was identified. Officials believe the policeman was targeted and ambushed because he was an officer.
