Moming With Miya is back for Season 2, a Pregnancy and Parenting Series. Join the Host Tamiya as she and special guest NICU Nurse Chelsea Samms speak about life in the NICU from both a nurse and a parent's perspective. Unless there is a medical condition found early on, most expectant moms are not spoken to about the NICU and if your baby unexpectedly needs to go there what to expect.
Tamiya a mother of 4, wife, doula, breastfeeding peer educator, and the founder of The Motherhood Academy. The Motherhood Academy (TMA) is a NJ Nonprofit with a mission to educate, mentor, and support mothers of color though all stages of their pregnancies. In addition to the Academy's Motherhood 101--crash course in pregnancy and parenting, and mentorship program TMA also hosts Mom's Night In events where mothers can virtually connect with activities, games, and conversations surrounding motherhood.
Chelsea Samms was born and bred in Long Island, NY, where she was raised in a very blessed household and developed a fierce swag like no other. She is the middle child of 3 and a true 90s baby at heart. She attended the University of Maryland, College Park and obtained her Bachelor of Science in Community Health in 2014. Here she also cultivated and bolstered her leadership skills by sticking her hands into various extracurricular activities on the campus.
Chelsea always knew she wanted to work somewhere in the medical field, but entering college she wasn’t sold on nursing yet. But she managed to find her path into nursing and went on to attend The Johns Hopkins University, School of Nursing after her undergraduate studies. She forged her way through an intense 17-month accelerated BSN program and worked tirelessly to become Chelsea Samms, BSN, RN.
After passing her boards in 2016, Chelsea was blessed enough to take her talents across the country to begin her nursing career in Los Angeles, CA at the young age of 23. Countless life lessons were learned during her time in Los Angeles including experiences related to losing a job, starting and ending a business, and her wonderful journey into the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Currently residing back home in New York, she continues to seek more knowledge and wisdom within her nursing profession to this day.
