'Tis the season of maxed-out credit cards, indulgence, and the look of happiness—But for the Church, Advent is the time we get honest about our deepest wounds, pains, and brokenness, because the time of our salvation is drawing near. The time, according to Paul, is that liminal moment between the night being “far gone” and the sun breaking in. The darkness is departing more and more, and the light is breaking in. This great hope gives us a real opportunity to bear our wounds, to face our greatest fears, and to receive the healing of God's presence.
