Welcome to Nightcrawler Is My Boyfriend, the podcast where two game designers read all of Claremont-Era X-Men on a quest to create the PERFECT X-Men TTRPG.

Every two weeks on Nightcrawler is My Boyfriend, Aaron King (RTFM Podcast, Patchwork World, SpeedRune) and Caleb Zane Huett (Triangle Agency) read a few issues of X-Men comics. Then, we recap those issues, study what makes them good, bad, or titillating, then design one mechanic for a potentially playable roleplaying game. You get to hear about the highs and lows of the greatest superhero team of all time and then join us as we talk through the process of designing a game, live.

Our first episode covers Giant Size X-Men #1 from 1975, the introduction of Storm, Colossus, and, of course, Nightcrawler. If you'd like to read along, go pick up that issue and join us in the first episode. That episode drops on July 1st, 2026. If you'd like to hear it early, you can join our patreon at Patreon.com/NIMBF.

When July 1st rolls around, patrons will also get access to our first monthly bonus episode covering the X-Men '97 animated series. Every month after that, you'll get an episode covering an X-Men adaptation, or book clubbing an existing superhero TTRPG, or maybe even, occasionally, some actual play. Also on our Patreon, free for everyone, is a guide to what we're reading and watching -- and a document compiling the game we're creating, updated after each episode. The game we're building together will always be available there for free. Even if you can't afford a monthly payment right now, you can use the Patreon to keep up with what we're doing and join the conversation. That's patreon.com/NIMBF.
