Just Something About Her with Jennifer Palmieri

Nikole Hannah-Jones

Listen Later

Nikole Hannah-Jones is best known as the creator of the “1619 Project", which has made her a lightning rod for criticism for her reframing of the United States’ founding and its relationship to the African slave trade. But Nikole’s been interested in and actively covering race, inequality, and education since she started a column called “From the African Perspective” in her high school newspaper. Now she’s won a Pulitzer Prize, a MacArthur Genius Grant, and more for her writing. Nikole joins Jennifer Palmieri to talk about the role of a journalist in covering history, how her worldview was shaped as a second grader in Iowa, and how learning about our past can inform our present and future.
