In this episode of Nina’s Law: Let’s Talk Care, the focus turns to one crucial question: why should essential care depend on where you live?

Across the UK, some hospitals allow carers to stay with the person they support,  while others don’t. This postcode lottery leaves disabled people and families facing uncertainty, distress, and avoidable pain. Nina explores why carers must be recognised as essential, not optional, in every hospital, not just a select few.

The conversation highlights the physical, emotional, and systemic consequences of excluding carers, and why a nationwide approach is the only fair and effective solution. This episode makes the case for consistency, dignity, and change, because care should never depend on chance.

This week, I’m joined by the lovely nurse Joanna, who talks openly about her wonderful daughter Poppy and what it’s really like caring for a child with complex needs. We discuss why care isn’t optional, it’s essential, and how Nina’s Law would hugely benefit the NHS by freeing up staff and allowing carers to continue caring during hospital visits.
