Nineteen Eighty-Four, the movie, takes the flat-out bleakness of Orwell’s imagined world and projects it onto the screen with little concern for what’s palatable. Despite the dark mood, we find value in returning to concepts of total surveillance and ‘double-think’ that, sadly, never go out of style.
