Nissan's Engine Recall and Turnaround Challenges

Listen Later

This article from Automotive Dive reports on a significant recall by Nissan North America, affecting nearly 444,000 vehicles due to a manufacturing defect in specific engine components that could lead to engine failures. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) opened an investigation after receiving complaints of engine knocking and metal debris. The recalled models, including Nissan Rogue and Altima, as well as Infiniti QX50 and QX55, are equipped with variable compression turbo (VC-Turbo) engines. Dealers will inspect for metal debris and repair or replace engines as necessary, free of charge to owners. This recall is particularly costly for Nissan, coinciding with the company's efforts to regain profitability after recent financial and corporate challenges, including a failed merger with Honda and job cuts.
