Deputy Chief Robert “Butch” Cobb is a true titan of the American fire service.

1967 Enlisted in the US Army, 
Deployed to Vietnam “68-69
Recipient of the US Army Air Medal for his part in arial combat action 

Volunteer
Dumont FD 69-79, served as Chief in 1978
West Milford Co. 4 from ’82-’90, served as Chief in 1980

Career
In 1972 appointed to Weehawkin FD

Appointed to the Fire Department of Jersey City in 1975 

Promoted in 1989 to Captain served in E22     E20    Rescue 1

1997 he was Promoted to Battalion chief and Assigned 2nd Battalion Grp C. On 9/11/01 he was dispatched with his Battalion mutual aid to the WTC Attacks where he was tasked to assist the FDNY Incident Command team.

Promoted to Deputy Chief 2005 Assigned Chief of Operations.

City wide tour commander 2008

Retired in 2008 at the rank of Deputy Fire Chief while serving as Chief of Operations

Upon his retirement for the JCFD he Began working for Insurance Services Office (ISO) as Director of Community Hazard Mitigation

Contributing Writer for Firehouse Magazine for over 25 years

Hands On Training Coordinator for Firehouse Expo

Firehouse Magazine Hall of Fame Inductee 2022

Chief Cobb has also coordinated and hosted several training conferences to benefit the widows and orphans of fire service tragedies such as the 1999
Worcester Cold Storage Fire and Charleston Super Sofa Store Fires.
