Patrick Wirkus is a career Battalion Chief with the City of Elizabeth, New Jersey Fire Department currently assigned to administration. He was hired in March of 2012 and served in Engine 1 and Rescue 1 as a firefighter. He was promoted to Captain in June of 2019 where he was assigned to Engine 7 and landed back in Rescue 1 in September of 2020. He was then promoted to Battalion Chief in May of 2023 and is currently assigned to a staff position in administration.
Battalion Chief Wirkus holds a bachelor’s degree in Fire Science from New Jersey City University and a designated Fire Officer credential through the Center for Public Safety Excellence. He is currently pursuing his master’s degree in Fire Executive Leadership and will graduate with Columbia Southern University’s class of 2024. He is a Level II Fire Instructor with the Union County Fire Academy, EMT-Instructor, and as of February been appointed as a deputy fire mutual aid coordinator MAC 2A.
