In this first episode of Non Neurotypical Art Students, I interview Matty. She is a first year bachelor students at the Graphic Design department of the Royal Academy of Arts in the Hague and she is diagnosed with ADHD. I ask her to her ability to switch every 10 years from place to place, her husband with autism, her past as a campaign manager, her art that is hugely influenced by her different ability and her future.
Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by inattention, or excessive activity and impulsivity, which are otherwise not appropriate for a neurotypical person's age. Some people with ADHD also display difficulty regulating emotions or problems with executive function. Matty and I talked about how her neurotype influences her proces and might seem a bit haphazard, while the academy values well researched projects, but it empowers her dynamic live.
Non Neurotypical Art Students (NNAS) is a platform create and hosted by me (Niels Otterman) where neurodivergent art students helps or contact other neurodivergent art students. Neurodivergent means that someone’s neurological development and state as atypical. It goes often hand in hand with neurotypes such as: ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADD, Bipolar Disorder, Tourette’s, Dyslexia and many others.
