Art of Doing

No. 3 - Denise & Dan Do Travel

Listen Later

This past Mother's Day my parents paid me a visit in Charleston, South Carolina. We gathered around my dining room table, podcast equipment in tow, to talk about one of their favorite things to do...travel.
In recent years, my parents have become known for their epic travels. I say this because my friends are constantly asking me "So where are you parents going next?!" which is largely due to the fact that my father's Instagram feed is filled with pics from their adventures, which leave many of us (myself included) feeling jealous on any given day.
It seems my parents were bitten by the travel bug. And I got it too!
Ever since I was knee high to a grasshopper, my parents threw me in the back seat of their 1984 Renault Alliance (and later the brown Dodge Caravan) to travel from one side of the state to another, to the mountains, to Disney, to the grandparents, and beyond.
So I wanted to understand just what is is about travel that's so alluring and important to my parents. Did they grow up traveling as kids and what magical memories do they still carry? Why did they want me to learn the joy of travel at such a young age? And just what have they learned in their 60-some odd years of traveling around this Earth.
Enjoy the show!
