As a devout Jew, the Apostle Paul had every reason in the world to be confident in his relidious accomplishments and 'goodness'; but ultimately, he came to learn that his accomplishmnents got him no nearer to heaven. It was only God's grace, and the Atonement of Christ, that gave him, and us, the surety of eternal life.
