Preceding Film

No Country For Old Men/Blood Simple

Listen Later

The Coen Brothers' directing careers culminated in winning best picture at the 2008 Academy Awards for their adaptation of Cormac McCarthy's novel, No Country For Old Men. This Neo-Western is as acclaimed as any movie of the 21st century, but it wasn't the duo's first attempt at capturing the atmosphere of rural Texas. In their debut film (directed by Joel, but written by both) the Coen Brothers curate a small, isolated crime story called Blood Simple that has a lot of the same hallmarks of No Country. In this week's episode of Preceding Film, Drew and Heath discuss the similarities of the two films and what makes them great.
