Help From A Hypocrite with Joey Dardano

No Fake Laughs with Dave Merheje

Listen Later

This week I'm honored to have comedian and actor Dave Merheje on the show! We start out talking about his start in Windsor, Canada, through Detroit and Toronto, culminating in a story of Dave getting to watch Russell Peters in a club in Toronto before he blew up to the superstar that he is today, inspiring Dave. Dave and I talk about how cool it is when you become friends with another comic that you used to look up to and who's success and skill seemed "out of this world" initially. Dave and I get into Dating and our flaws as men and how that impacts our experience. Dave is my first guest to participate in our new segment "Say You're Sorry" and he answers very honestly. Dave and I discover throughout the episode that we truly have a lot in common, aside of course from comedy. We've both been punching bags for friends, our minds work in similar ways, and we're very energetic people so people expect us to always act a certain way. Our question this week involves being able to be comfortable with the fact that when you're a comic, a lot of your jokes involve making fun of yourself, so people are actually laughing at things you're truly insecure about, which is a pretty difficult part of the job to overcome. At the end of the episode, Dave makes me feel pretty damn good with his sign of approval, and I can confidently say this is some of the most fun I've had making this show! You can check out Dave's work on the Hulu show "Ramy" and you can listen to his albums on Spotify and Apple Music, including his 2019 Juno award winning album "Good Friend Bad Grammar". You can find Dave on Instagram and Twitter at @DaveMerheje.
