Packers fans remember exactly what happens when the NFL puts games in the hands of replacement refs. Today, I’m talking about why the NFL’s new seven-year agreement with the NFL Referees Association is genuinely good news for Green Bay, and yes, that means we have to talk about the Fail Mary.

I also break down the Packers’ two new waiver claims: tight end Luke Lachey from the Texans and cornerback M.J. Devonshire from the Bills. I really liked Lachey coming out of Iowa, and I think he has a real chance to be an interesting Packers fit if he can get his blocking back to where it needs to be.

Plus, Rasul Douglas called Green Bay “home,” and there may be at least some reason for Packers fans to keep an eye on a possible reunion. Nothing confirmed, but definitely worth discussing.

The Packers’ 2026 season may come down to whether the right young players take the next step.

On today’s episode of Packers: DERAILED, J.J. Lahey breaks down why Matthew Golden and Chris McClellan could be two of the biggest keys to Green Bay’s success this season. Golden has a chance to define the Packers’ passing game with his speed, explosiveness, and ability to change how defenses play Jordan Love. McClellan could be just as important on defense if he gives the Packers the interior presence they badly needed.

But not every young player is a sure thing.

The Packers have officially moved on from Brandon McManus, and this is bigger than a normal kicker transaction.

Green Bay already paid McManus a $1 million roster bonus, then drafted Trey Smack, then cut McManus anyway. That says a lot about where the Packers stood on their kicking situation after missed kicks helped cost them five wins last season, including the playoff loss to the Chicago Bears.

The Green Bay Packers just picked up Lukas Van Ness’ fifth-year option, and a lot of fans are already asking the same question: WHY??

LVN has been called a bust. He hasn’t put up huge sack numbers. He hasn’t had the clean, obvious breakout season fans were hoping for from a former first-round pick.

But that’s exactly why this video needed to happen. When you look past the box score, Lukas Van Ness is not some failed draft pick the Packers are blindly hoping on. He is one of the most valuable, misunderstood players on this defense.

In this breakdown, we look at the hidden stats that explain why LVN matters so much, why his impact is bigger than the sack column, why his run defense and pressure profile make him incredibly valuable, and why Green Bay was robbed of seeing a full breakout year because of injuries.
