On the latest edition of our popular podcast series PACKAGED we chat to Ben Harris from the Shop, Distributive and Employees Association (SDA) about its campaign to toughen penalties for offenders who assault retail workers.
Mr Harris (pictured below) says since during and post COVID, offences against retail staff have increased and the legislation needs to be bolstered to bring WA in line with other states in the country.
As you’ll hear, liquor store staff (just like other retail workers) are constantly in the firing line.
He says the cost of living and other economic pressures are adding to the cascade of violence on workers, which is why they need to be better protected.
