Imagine that you were exploring a foreign religion, what fears, concerns or questions would you have?
What environment would you want to do this in?
Mark 2:15-17
And as he reclined at table in his house, many tax collectors and sinners were reclining with Jesus and his disciples, for there were many who followed him. And the scribes of the Pharisees, when they saw that he was eating with sinners and tax collectors, said to his disciples, "Why does he eat with tax collectors and sinners?" And when Jesus heard it, he said to them, "Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. I came not to call the righteous, but sinners."
Creating a culture of dialogue means becoming people who truly respect and value all people as worthy of the love and sacrifice Christ demonstrated.
Seeking to understand as much as we want to be understood is other centered communication.
Are you ok with trusting the Holy Spirit with the process and with people?
1 Corinthians 3:6-7
I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the growth. So neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything, but only God who gives the growth.
There is a process of growth
When we rush the process we don’t allow the Holy Spirit to work.
Our role is to be authentic Christians. Loving like God loves us.
Big Idea:
The path to authentic faith is about process.
Process is where doubts get turned into trust.
Practical ways to create a culture of dialogue:
Create a habit of listening and interacting with those who don’t believe.
Ask questions and listen compassionately so that you truly understand why skeptics doubt.
Respect the will and opinions of the other person and listen as much as you speak, and encourage where you see the Spirit of God at work.
Trust God’s spirit to lead and guide you as you interact with people.
How are you helping someone take their next step with Jesus?
Where are you taking your next step? Are they connected?
